NHL Blackouts in Canada 2026-27: Province by Province, and How to Avoid Them
An NHL blackout means a game you can see in one province is blocked in another, because the broadcaster only holds the rights for a region. On Sportsnet+, TSN+ and your TV provider, regional games are blocked outside the team’s territory. On TiviLeaf there are no blackouts: every regional channel is in the lineup, so you can watch any channel and any game from any province, or from outside Canada. Even the official blackouts are fewer for 2026-27, because Sportsnet lifted about 150 regional blackouts and now shows more than 550 games nationally, about 35 percent more than last season. This guide shows what is blocked where on the official services, and how to avoid it.
Key takeaways
- TiviLeaf has no blackouts. Every regional channel, Sportsnet Pacific, West, Ontario and East, TSN1-5, RDS and TVA Sports, is in the lineup wherever you are, so any team is one channel away.
- On official services, regional games are blacked out outside the team’s territory. Sportsnet lifted about 150 of them for 2026-27, so more games are national.
- National games have no blackout anywhere in Canada: Saturday Night Hockey on Sportsnet, the national games on TVA Sports, and the Monday and Wednesday streaming games.
- Saskatchewan is the one province with three teams in market on official services: the Flames, Oilers and Jets.
- Sportsnet+ Premium, $44.99 a month, is the official way to follow a team outside its territory, with more than 1,000 out-of-market games.
- Territory boundaries, especially in Ontario, are set by providers. If you rely on an official service, confirm yours with your TV or streaming provider.
How NHL Blackouts Work in Canada
The league sells rights in two packages. National games are shown across the country and are never blacked out. Regional games are sold team by team to Sportsnet or TSN for one territory, and anyone outside it is blocked so the buyer keeps its exclusivity. A Canucks regional game that you can watch in British Columbia is blacked out in Ontario for the same reason.
“In market” and “out of market” only apply to regional games. The same Canucks game shown nationally on a Saturday night has no such restriction.
What Changed in 2026-27
Rogers renewed its national rights and chose to turn a large block of regional games into national ones. Games that used to be blocked outside a team’s market now air across Canada on Sportsnet or Sportsnet+. Two other changes matter for blackouts: Monday Night Hockey is a Sportsnet+ exclusive, and Prime Video has the national Wednesday games. Both are national, so neither is blacked out, but neither is on an ordinary TV channel either. On TiviLeaf both are carried on live-event channels while they are on. Our 2026-27 NHL guide covers where each night airs.
Which Teams Are In Market Where (Official Services)
| Province or territory | In-market teams (regional games) | Out of market |
|---|---|---|
| British Columbia and Yukon | Vancouver Canucks | All other teams |
| Alberta | Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers | Canucks, Jets, Maple Leafs, Senators, Canadiens |
| Saskatchewan | Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets | Canucks, Maple Leafs, Senators, Canadiens |
| Manitoba | Winnipeg Jets | Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Maple Leafs, Senators, Canadiens |
| Ontario | Toronto Maple Leafs. Eastern Ontario also gets the Senators and the Canadiens | Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Jets, and the Senators and Canadiens in most of the province |
| Quebec | Montréal Canadiens | All other teams |
| Atlantic provinces | Montréal Canadiens | All other teams |
| Northwest Territories and Nunavut | Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets | Canucks, Maple Leafs, Senators, Canadiens |
These territories come from TV-provider support pages and news coverage of the 2026-27 broadcasts, and they describe the official services. None of it applies on TiviLeaf, where every team is open in every province. The Ontario boundary is the least tidy: the Canadiens’ territory runs roughly east of a line from Pembroke to Belleville, and your provider decides which side of it you are on. If you rely on an official service, check with your TV or streaming provider before you rely on a single game.
How to Watch Out-of-Market Games
- TiviLeaf, from $9 CAD a month: no blackouts and no territory check. Open Sportsnet Pacific for the Canucks, Sportsnet West for the Flames and Oilers, TSN3 for the Jets, Sportsnet Ontario or TSN4 for the Maple Leafs, TSN5 for the Senators, and TSN or RDS for the Canadiens, whatever province you are in.
- Sportsnet+ Premium, $44.99 a month: adds more than 1,000 out-of-market games, with a choice between the home and away feeds. This is the official route to follow a team outside its territory.
- Your TV provider: some providers sell regional packages for teams outside your market. Ask which ones they carry.
On the official services, using a VPN or changing your billing address to look as if you are in market is against their terms. TiviLeaf needs neither, because it has no market check.
Questions We Get, Province by Province
On TiviLeaf the answer is the same in every province: open the team’s channel. On the official services:
- Saskatchewan: Flames, Oilers and Jets regional games are all in market, so Sportsnet+ Standard ($34.99 a month) covers the Flames and Oilers, and TSN+ ($24.99 a month) covers the Jets. Canadiens regional games are blacked out, but the Canadiens’ national games are not.
- Alberta: the Flames and Oilers regional games are in market. Sportsnet+ Standard covers both. Add Premium for the rest of the league, and Prime Video for the Wednesday games.
- Manitoba: the Jets are in market on TSN3 and TSN+. Everything else is national or out of market.
- British Columbia: Canucks regional games are in market on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet+.
- Ontario: the Maple Leafs are split between Sportsnet Ontario and TSN4, so a Leafs fan needs both Sportsnet+ and TSN+ for the regional games.
- Quebec and the Atlantic provinces: Canadiens regional games are on TSN in English and RDS in French, and the national French-language games are on TVA Sports.

FAQ
Can I watch Canadiens games in Saskatchewan?
Yes on TiviLeaf, which has no blackouts: TSN, RDS and TVA Sports are all in the lineup, so the Canadiens' regional games are open in any province. On official services those regional games on TSN and RDS are blacked out in Saskatchewan, which is outside their territory of Quebec, the Atlantic provinces and eastern Ontario, though their national games are not blacked out anywhere.
What is the best way to watch most NHL games in Calgary or Alberta?
TiviLeaf has every team's channel with no blackouts, so Alberta is no different from anywhere else. On official services, the Flames and Oilers regional games are in market in Alberta, so Sportsnet+ Standard or the Sportsnet West channel covers both. National games are available everywhere, Sportsnet+ Premium adds more than 1,000 out-of-market games, and Prime Video has the national Wednesday games.
Are TVA Sports Canadiens games blacked out outside Quebec?
Not on TiviLeaf, which has no blackouts. Officially, the national French-language games on TVA Sports are not blacked out, while RDS carries the Canadiens' other games as regional broadcasts that are blacked out outside the team's territory.
Did the NHL get rid of blackouts in Canada?
No, but there are fewer. Sportsnet lifted about 150 regional blackouts for 2026-27 and now shows more than 550 games nationally. Regional games are still blacked out outside a team's territory on the official services. TiviLeaf has none.
Which games are never blacked out?
National games: in 2026-27 that means Saturday Night Hockey on Sportsnet, the national games on TVA Sports, Monday Night Hockey on Sportsnet+ and the national Wednesday games on Prime Video. On TiviLeaf, no game is blacked out.
Does TiviLeaf remove NHL blackouts?
TiviLeaf has none to remove. There is no territory check, so every regional channel, Sportsnet Pacific, West, Ontario and East, TSN1-5, RDS and TVA Sports, plays in any province, and the games that officially stream only on Sportsnet+ or Prime Video are carried on live-event channels while they are on.
Can I watch NHL games from outside Canada on TiviLeaf?
Yes. TiviLeaf is not tied to a location, so the same channels and games work from anywhere with an internet connection, including the United States and Europe.
